Composing

Sometimes it is hard to make the transition from good riffs to a well composed song. I like to build up each track of a song with a MIDI sequencer before recording. That way I can play with each part until it all comes together exactly like I want. This is the reason why I have a MIDI posted here for almost every song and why you can hear the MIDI version of a song before I record it.

Instruments

On Instrumentals, I used my Ibanez RX and a DOD metal distortion pedal for all electric parts. I used my noname acoustic on all acoustic tracks except "Sway". I used House's classical style guitar for that one. For Limited Sight Distance, I used RonchQ's Ibanez RG with lock nut and floating tremolo, his Digitech RP7 Valve effects board, and my Ibanez EX bass. On my next album, I will be using a Digitech Genesis 3 Processor and hopefully an Ibanez 7-string. For most songs on Instruments there is only one instrument track. Songs on Limited Sight Distance contains multiple guitar tracks, a bass track, a vocal track, and due to my lack of drums, a synthesized drum track. This same format will be used for the next album.

Recording/Editing

I don't have a fancy recording studio. Everything is done on my computer. On Instrumentals I was using a 5-year-old Creative Labs Sound Blaster card. I'd record acoustic tracks through a microphone and electric tracks through the external line-in. I did all my editing with WAVE manipulation programs like GWave and Acid Wave. Now I have a brand new Creative MP3+ Sound Card. It records a much cleaner sound. It also came with a nice WAVE manipulator called Wave Studio. For Limited Sight Distance, I primarily used Wave Studio and Cool Edit Pro.
